Ringier Transforms its E-Paper experience for all Blick titles
Ringier AG is an innovative, digitalised and diversified Swiss media company operating in Europe and Africa. With some 6,400 employees, its portfolio includes around 140 companies in the print, sports media, digital media, radio, ticketing, entertainment and e-commerce sectors and leading online marketplaces for cars, property and jobs. Ringier, a family company founded in 1833 as a publishing house and printing plant, has invested consistently in digitalisation and global expansion in recent years.
Ringier uses the Purple digital publishing software platform from SPRYLAB for the e-paper editions of their Blick Swiss German-language daily newspaper family.
The Project
Ringier, one of the leading publishers in Switzerland, uses the Purple digital publishing software platform from SPRYLAB for the e-paper editions of their Blick Swiss German-language daily newspaper family.
In the course of the e-paper relaunch of all Blick titles, the complete customer journey for their app and web experience were revised.
A central goal was to drastically reduce the time span between the completion of the print edition and its digital publication in the app and on the web. By using the Purple PDF workflow, a smooth and fully automated playout of the digital editions is guaranteed, accompanied by continuous 24/7/365 monitoring.
“One challenge was to generate high-quality, structured data based on PDFs without significantly slowing down the automated process.
We are proud to have worked closely with our partner X-CAGO to develop a process that converts even the most demanding print layouts in the Blick family into structured data in record time.”
— Stephan Heck, Managing Director Purple, SPRYLAB
The Solution: Purple, SPRYLAB and X-CAGO
The e-paper app and the corresponding web edition offer a wide range of functions that are continuously developed further as part of the Purple SaaS offering. Numerous functions that are frequently used by readers, such as the reading mode or the read aloud function, are based on the structured data created by X-CAGO.
The introduction of the fully automated workflow and the expansion of the e-paper app with innovative functions have brought numerous advantages for Ringier. By eliminating manual processes and implementing seamless automation, efficiency has been noticeably increased. At the same time, reader satisfaction has increased significantly.
